Awesome review of the Shawn Whisenant/ NIGHTED zine Truck City up now on 12oz!

Crucial Times #4 came through the in the mail the other day- Nicky killed it!

It’s fucking 72 pages(!), packed full of rare action shots, hilarious scans, rap sprays, and overall life inspiration. It’s reminiscent of the best old school graff zines, cut and paste/ xerox style, except that the quality is next level (full color, nice paper). Basically the best of both worlds. He also expanded the content this round and included some awesome guest photos from the homie Edwin Delarosa, RPM, and others.

I had the recent pleasure of getting to trade with this dude Andrew, a fellow Canadian. I’ve never met the guy but this zine gives me a lil taste of what he’s all about! A really clean xerox zine with babes, graffiti, hardcore shows, street debauchery. Just what I like! This is a low run of 20 copies, so get on this dude and see if he has any left… And he packed the envelope with stickers, patches and pins, and I’m sure he’ll do the same for you!

I’ve had this zine for a few years, I bought it at antisocial skateshop in Vancouver when I lived out there. Its all sharpie illustrations in the urban rap letter graffiti styling. It says its a compilation in the back, but no info other than that. This zine is rad, I flip through it all the time. I wish I knew who made it. If you know, hit me up! Knowledge!

Black is Beautiful #5 by Allister Lee
Black is Beautiful is a zine all about black marker culture. Allister Lee is a designer and marker collector, and his website is a growing compendium of different black markers both old and new. Black is Beautiful #5 is laid out like a quasi-comic, with the characters all different types of black markers. There is some beautiful illustration in here and the whole thing is bubble jet printed on some weird thick packing paper. Really different! Hit up Allister and see if hes holding on to any more of these. Get one in your hands or you’re gonna be bummed!

This is just a real no nonsense black and white xerox zine. Good photos! Hood rat shit, bong rips, graffiti, babes, what more could you want! This one has a real hand made feel. Came with some great stickers stamped and hand made, and some nice buttons. I got mine from Needles + Pens but they’re limited to 100 so don’t wait. Do you have something better to spend 10 bucks on?

God damn, this is a zine. Chunky Mane is really on top of his game. Action, funny commentary, and plenty of shots that make me want to go outside and get into some shit. All on some really slick paper, with some crazy color center spreads, and  I’m sure you’ve already seen the cover all over the interweb. But fuck all that, get one in your hands (while they last). And if you’ve ever gotten mail from Chunks, then you know he comes hella correct with the extra goodies, too!

ZINE GAME WITH CHUNKY MANE!

What’s up people. Chunks here with another 2 zines highlighted for you. I thought I would review 2 newer zines that you can still get your hands on, but don’t sleep, because these ones are going fast!

I LIKE DISAPPEARING by Swampy and Victoria Yee Howe
This zine is refreshing. Its a nice big one in full color but still has a great hand made feel to it. The pages aren’t cut perfectly and its stapled in the middle. Its full of photos of freight hopping, wilderness spots, babes, and a lil bad boy graffiti action for good measure. It has it all! If you’re looking to spice up your zine collection with something a little more refined, I’d suggest getting your hands on a copy of this before its gone!

SITUATION CRITICAL by House and Yah Boy

This zine is a good look at two dudes travelling across Canada gettin up and gettin loose. Its full of great action shots, some hunnies, and a conked out dude with a tag on his t-shirt. I’d expect nothing less from the first publication from Police Story! This one is limited to 50 copies so get your hands on it before its too late… otherwise you’re gonna be bummed. A must have for the shelf!

I linked up with Justin Carlin through K. E. Bleier, and he just hooked up his new zine, We Know You Suck. It’s a banger!

I just got caffeined up for my third or fourth trip through the zine, and it did not disappoint. Thoughtfully designed layouts of our favorite subject matter- people going hard. This dude is really out there; it’s inspiring.

And the quality is just crazy- it’s full color, on this really nice paper. S/O to Parking Block Publishing out in Chicago- (where are you guys racking copies from?).. They have some other good looking zines out, too. Check ‘em out.
